This final book was definitely my least favorite of the bunch. I can't believe I'm even saying this, but I was actually pretty bored throughout more than half of it (something I would never have thought possible with this series). There seemed to be a lot of pointless, I don't know...TIME, I guess, just passing. Time spent trying to escape places. It dragged and felt tedious to me.And damn, it was so fricken depressing! It's not like I need my books to end with rainbows and ponies, but come on! *Spoilers* So great, yeah, the bad guy was finally defeated, but all the characters you've come to love over the course of 7 books are now either dead, deeply hurt or miserable. I mean, am I supposed to feel something OTHER than depressed? Or am I missing something here? I was also disappointed that Elise and James were just so broken throughout so much of this story -- the badass-ness that I've always loved about them was not brung in the same degree as in previous books (strange, seeing as the most important fight of all happens in this book, but ehh. It just wasn't all that exciting or awesome to me).
But. If you're this far in the series, there really is no question of whether you should read this book or not because OBVIOUSLY you need to, if nothing more than to finally have all your questions answered, which, thankfully, they are. And the writing is, as usual, top notch and I can definitely appreciate the care the author took in developing the entire overall story arc leading up to this final showdown with Elise.
All in all, this was still a kickass series that will appeal to anyone who likes strong heroines and stories with a darker twist.

Paradise Damned An Urban Fantasy Novel The Descent Series S M Reine 9781490300764 Books Reviews
So the End has arrived. The truth of Elise's time with James comes to a shattering end. His lies from the beginning are to much to forgive and rightly so. Elise has survived the brutalities of God, Angels, demons, humans and even James. The story was heartbreaking, unsettling as the truth became apparent and the loss of lives were tragic. What a great series The Descent Series is and I highly recommend it to all. Thank you SM Reine! - Kathy Barber Doyle - 12/25/2016
Just finished Paradise Damned by SM Reine and I am still trying to catch my breath. When the description said "The End has arrived", my first thought was that we would be saying good bye to Elise. With the end of Paradise Damned, we see Elise become the epitome of "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." The trials that Elise is put thru will tear at your heart and cry for a young girl who lives by three things..."don't let your guard down; your enemies never sleep, and NEVER let them take you." I cried for Elise, I cried for James, I cried for Nathaniel. This book took my breath and broke my heart. SM Reine pulls out all the stops for this one. We haven't seen the last of Elise and James, as SM Reine has promised us in the Dear Readers. All I can say is "Thank God" Ooops....looks around for you know who.
Same review for multi books
I LOVE SM REINE!!!!!
Check her website for the order of her books and how they interact with each other.
So, she has several series, but they all interact with each other in some way or another. LOVE THAT, because your sad you want to know more about this person or this event, GOT IT in another series!!!
Anyways, LOVE her, LOVE all her books I've read so far, I'm rereading the ones in better order since I'm finally able to purchase more books so I can finish story lines (was jobless for a bit ( killed me that i couldn't read more than a sample)
What a great ending to a series. The entire time I kept thinking I knew what was real and what was not but I was wrong.
This last book in the Decent series is truly the culmination of the story arch. I didn't want it to end. Yet I was ready. Sarah has gifted us with a great series and a wonderful group of characters. Each in their own way pull on different strings within us. Some anger and others sadness, empathy, or any other emotion that she has brought forth to the surface from her writing. I have enjoyed the ride and look forward to many more of her works.
Wow, I can't believe that I am finished with another of Ms. Sara Reine's series. This, book 7 was the finale of the Descent series. It was gripping!
This one had you moving from Reno to hell and heaven and places between. It was a nightmare of Genesis, origin of man, angel, demons and the many things that could and did go wrong.
I love Elise Cavanaugh and James Faulkner. The tension between this couple that draws them closer and farther away keeps the reader on edge and only wishing for their safety. Both are flawed but strong characters who play out their lives in Ms. Reine's worlds. The plots and worlds are equally strong and believable.
I am so glad I read this series. But remember that it is best to start with the Seasons of the Moon series and then start Descent series with Death's Hand. Though I think one could read the books out of order, I have found that each book is built on the one before and you can feel the characters growing and the plots thickening.
Just ... so much. I'm kicking myself for not reading these books sooner. Everything that had been germinating in the past books just sort of all shows up and makes you think "omg wtf" over and over.
Well, at least that is what happened to me. I can't really write a coherent type of review ... so I will simply say ... it was awesome, some parts were totally unexpected, and it gave me a total book hangover.
I can’t believe that there aren’t more people who love everything S. M. Reine writes….
This is the final book in this series. Elise is trapped in the garden and she keeps trying to avoid going through the door. In the meantime she finds a lot of interesting things, dead bodies, little glowing eggs, and she is brought an old friend which makes her question her sanity. How can she kill God, she doesn't have her falchion and Adam keeps ripping her apart. How everything ends is incredible I couldn't put this book down. I hope that James and Elise find a happy ending at some point down the road. Now that Adam/god isn't in the picture any more.
